Honest Reviews of 5 Restaurants and Cafés Near Budapest, Hungary
Porto di Pest
Budapest, Liszt Ferenc tér 3, 1061 Hungary
Restaurant Information
While heading to New York Café, we were kindly approached by a staff member and decided to enter this restaurant.
Most restaurants opened at 12, so there weren’t many options, and it had a Google Maps rating of 4.4, so I took the plunge!
It was a bit chilly, but there was a tent, so we sat outside.
(When ordering cola, they added lemon.)
Menu and Prices
I didn’t take pictures of the entire menu, only the items I ordered.
Goulash: 2,790 HUF
Schnitzel: 4,450 HUF
Hungarian Special Pasta: 3,650 HUF
Overall shot
To sum up, the schnitzel had a really crispy coating and was delicious. The goulash was from the first place I tried, and while it wasn’t the best I’ve had, it wasn’t bad either.
As for the pasta… it had a strong cheese smell, which might be a hit or miss.
If you like it, you’re sure to enjoy it!
The bread that came with the goulash was moist but bland.
It was so thick that it didn’t add much flavor when paired with the goulash.
Restroom and Total Cost
The restroom was very clean!!!!
Including cola and tip, the total for two people was 13,435 HUF!
New York Café
Budapest, Erzsébet krt. 9-11, 1073 Hungary
Entry Experience
After dinner, we headed straight to New York Café!
Upon entering, there are lines for reservations and walk-ins. We just stood in the walk-in line waiting for the staff’s guidance.
Since we couldn’t enter right away, we wondered if there were no available seats, but that wasn’t the case, and we were guided in quickly.
Even later, there were many empty seats, yet they still made people wait.
It seems they have their own system?
Order and Prices
We ordered cortado (similar to café latte), iced coffee with vanilla, and tiramisu.
The cortado was 2,800 HUF, and the others were 4,025 HUF.
Super expensive (around 15,000 KRW).
The coffee was pretty average, but the tiramisu was amazing, highly recommended!
The total cost, including tip, was 12,477 HUF.
BESTIA
Budapest, Szent István tér 9, 1051 Hungary
Restaurant Information
Located near St. Stephen’s Basilica, this restaurant stays open late and has a nice ambience.
It was also close to our accommodation.
We arrived early, so there weren’t many people, but by 9 PM, it was packed.
Many customers were just having beer without food.
I didn’t take an image of the menu, so please refer to the receipt for prices…
Order and Taste Evaluation
I ordered lamb chops, but the medium was not cooked enough.
I remember medium-well being overcooked…
Anyway, the meat was delicious, but it loses its flavor when it cools down, so eat it first!
The white sauce was a bit tangy, like a tartar sauce.
For sides, I ordered roasted sweet potatoes.
The texture was too crunchy, unlike the sweet potatoes we have in Korea, so it wasn’t very appealing.
If you’re thinking of something like Outback’s sweet potato, don’t order this!
The dish was like chicken breast cutlet, but incredibly moist, resembling a steak.
It was delicious!
The prices were lamb chops, chicken breast steak, sweet potatoes, cola, and beer in order.
Total with tip was 24,783 HUF.
It was the most expensive meal in Budapest.
