Austria Salzburg & Hallstatt 2 Nights 3 Days Trip: Mirabell Garden, Mozart's Birthplace, Mozart Square, Hallstatt Salt Mine
2 Nights 3 Days Trip to Salzburg & Hallstatt
Travel Dates: 2024.03.19 – 2024.03.21
Places Visited: Salzburg Station, Mirabell Gardens, Salzburg Cathedral, Mozart’s Birthplace, Mozart Square, Hallstatt Viewpoint, Hallstatt Salt Mine
Is it just my feeling that my photos are taking up more space as I write this travel log..
Train to Salzburg
Another train
During the long journey, I bought some snacks, but they were surprisingly expensive. 🤔
I also booked my train ticket to Hallstatt for the next day.
I was a bit worried about getting lost with the app like when I came from Graz to Salzburg, haha!
I only needed to buy the REX train ticket, as I had a transfer pass for the bus!
Accommodation in Salzburg
The exterior of the hotel where I will stay for 2 nights in Salzburg is so beautiful 😊✨
The interior was pretty but a bit cramped.
It had a basic hotel room vibe?
Koreasküche HIBISKUS
A Korean restaurant called Hibiscus near my accommodation.
Since I arrived just before the break time, I wandered around the city and got there shortly before 5:00 PM, only to find a line of people already waiting.
Seeing that many foreigners were there, not just Koreans, I felt reassured that it must be a good restaurant.
And it really was a great place! 😂
Mirabell Gardens
After eating, I went for a walk to the nearby Mirabell Gardens.
It was spacious and lush, which was really beautiful.
Unlike in Korea, it wasn’t overly crowded, which was great.
Yay 😊
Exploring Salzburg City
It seems like everyone loves to attach locks.
Isn’t this all just commercialism?
Mozart’s Birthplace
Mozart’s Birthplace turned out to be less impressive than I expected.
I’m not sure if you could actually go inside, but apart from the wall with Mozart’s name, it didn’t stand out much from other buildings, haha.
There’s even a supermarket on the first floor! 😂
But first, here’s a selfie…
Starbucks in Salzburg
So many desserts at Starbucks in Salzburg.
I stopped by to buy a cup for a friend’s request.
Definitely, the desserts here are a bit different from those in Korea.
A famous chocolate shop.
I thought about buying one as a souvenir, but it was too expensive, so I passed. Haha.
A popular snack souvenir shop.
It’s said that many visitors buy from here during their trips to Austria.
I don’t like wafer-like snacks, so I only bought a few for gifts.
But the souvenirs here were so pretty that I wanted to get them all…
I should have bought them… 😢
Salzburg Cathedral
Mozart Square
I came at a late (by European standards) hour, so it was rather quiet for a tourist spot.
Mozart Square seemed to be under construction, with barricades set up (I made sure to take pictures that didn’t show them), and there weren’t many people either.
I went to a souvenir shop to buy a magnet, but it had closed early, so I just walked around the city before heading back.
The mannequins were all very stylish~
L’Osteria Salzburg
Since it wouldn’t feel complete without a drink, I had to order a Moscow Mule.
They definitely pour more alcohol here than in Korea! 😵🍸
On the Way to Hallstatt
The next morning, on my way to Hallstatt!
I moved to Salzburg Station and took bus number 150, but it turned out I could have boarded right from the bus stop in front of my accommodation. Haha!
I waited at the stop marked 150, then boarded the bus with my pre-purchased ticket!
I had to switch to a train at Bad Ischl.
I genuinely wanted to share more photos, but I held back.
There weren’t many good photos due to reflections in the bus windows, but the scenery was hard to capture with the eyes alone.
I’m constantly thinking how great it would be if Korea were just a bit larger…
Bad Ischl station had two platforms, and I was confused about where to board…
After some hesitation, I decided to eavesdrop on other travelers and follow them. Haha!
Most of them were headed to Hallstatt too. 😏
Arrival at Hallstatt
Surprisingly, both directions at the station use the same platform (I was confused about this on my way back).
How does this even work…?
There’s only one main road, and you follow it down to reach the pier. Here, you can buy a boat ticket and board!
The round-trip ticket was 7 euros per person.
The mountains in the distance were truly magnificent.
It was honestly blindingly bright.
I was trying hard not to squint.
Finally, we arrived in Hallstatt!
The return boat could be taken at any time, so I took a picture of the schedule.
It was right there as soon as I got off the boat.
Hallstatt Viewpoint
We headed to the viewpoint first!
It’s really no exaggeration that there’s a reason for the viewpoint!
It’s an experience that can’t be expressed through photos…
What would I have done if I hadn’t visited Hallstatt?
Hahaha, why do they keep taking wide-angle pictures?
🦢 (I have nothing to say)
I had a meal at a beautiful view restaurant.
The grilled fish was shockingly delicious.
It felt like it was freshwater fish caught right from Hallstatt Lake.
There was also a strong fishy smell! The view was the only good part.
The gorilla rabbit I bought in Rome was here too…
It was reassuring to see the price was the same. Haha.
Hallstatt Salt Mine
Next, we headed to the famous Hallstatt Salt Mine.
I didn’t have enough time for the full mine tour, so I just bought a round-trip ticket for the lift.
On the way to the lift, there was a souvenir shop where we could taste salt.
You can buy small quantities, making it great for gifts!
The lift was incredibly high and scary.
It was surprisingly fast too!
Of course, it’s 840 meters high.
Salt Mine Viewpoint
The view was simply stunning.
It looked beautiful from below, but it was even more magnificent from up here.
The end of the platform looked a bit unsteady, but it was sturdy.
It was a little scary, though! Haha.
Enjoying a beer with a killer view. Haha!
(I’m losing my words…)
As it was time to go, I bought a visually stunning pastry on the way back, and the cream was genuinely amazing.
I highly recommend it as a snack!
I didn’t even notice things like this on the way there…
As my excitement waned, I found myself looking at my phone (I really wanted to rest).
As I lost energy, I decided to snack on the chocolate I bought the day before.
After returning to Bad Ischl Station, I headed back to Salzburg.
This is where I take the E bus.
I was completely wiped out.
Haha! I had to have another drink, or it would feel incomplete!
Maybe it’s because I walked a lot that day, but the beer was incredibly delicious! 🍻👍👍
There’s a reason why I gained weight on this trip.
