Chuncheon Kwon Jin-kyu Museum of Art Saturday Outing

I visited the Kwon Jin-kyu Museum of Art in Chuncheon. It seems to be called Chuncheon Outskirts. As I entered, looking at the tall mountains as if on the way to enjoy the autumn leaves, I wondered if people would actually come to a place like this. However, when I arrived, there were quite a few people, mostly families. I was curious how they all knew about this place.

The parking lot is quite spacious, and it’s not just a simple museum. It seems to be a small town with a bakery, a jjimjilbang (Korean sauna), a steakhouse, and an jade experience center.

It seems they are collectively called Dalasil.

As I entered the museum, Iron Man stood guard at the entrance. Perhaps they put effort into making it family-friendly for those with children?

Going up to the upper floors, different characters guard the entrances on other levels. (To go to floors 2-4, there is an admission fee of 10,000 won per floor.)

Inside, there are thousands of miniatures. While it seems like something children would enjoy, my spouse and I also found it fascinating.

I was surprised again to hear that all these miniatures were collected by one person. I asked at the first-floor information desk out of curiosity. How many years did it take to collect them all?

Of course, there were Mazinger and Robot Taekwon V, and as you can see in the photo below, there were also Tetsujin 28-go and Jjangga. Haha.

I looked around for Casshan, just in case. I watched this animation a lot when I was young, so I thought they might have it. I eventually found it, but it was only a small size and not a detailed model, which was a bit disappointing.

Jumeok-daejang (Fist Captain) brings back memories… lol

This is Wonder Woman. There are various versions of the miniature, and although I’m not a big fan of Wonder Woman, this one caught my eye. Her gaze seems both cool and warm. I’d like to buy one if I could find it for sale, but I couldn’t find it even after searching extensively online.

The miniatures seem to range from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of won, and those that can be considered [vintage] are now over ten million won. It makes me have a whimsical thought that collecting miniatures could be passed down through generations. Haha.

Works at the Kwon Jin-kyu Museum of Art

I ended up looking at the miniatures first before visiting the museum. Since it’s the Kwon Jin-kyu Museum of Art, I also looked at Kwon Jin-kyu’s works. I prefer to see artworks in person, so I didn’t take many photos. In addition to Kwon Jin-kyu’s works, other paintings are also on display.

I wonder why he started making terracotta works… It seems Kwon Jin-kyu thought of the charm of terracotta as follows. Terracotta… If I ever get a house with a large yard in the future, I would like to try sculpting and making terracotta.

For the entire month of November 2017, the Kwon Jin-kyu Museum of Art will be exhibiting works by 20 artists selected through a competition held over the past year. These are paintings, and the grand prize is 100 million won, decided by the votes of paying visitors. I think I’ll visit again in November. Haha, out of curiosity.

Dalasil Bakery and Surrounding Facilities

After finishing the exhibition tour, I went into the bakery. I was hungry and felt like having coffee.

They are selling freshly baked bread. The staff are dressed in outfits suitable for children’s eye level, and there are occasional artworks visible in the bakery. Many visitors are families… and many people in hiking attire.

Outside, it’s designed like a small park, and they even raise miniature horses.

There was also a jjimjilbang and an jade experience center, but I didn’t stop by and came back. It was a relaxing Saturday afternoon.
