Late-night Izakaya, Rakuen

Did you know there’s an izakaya like this that stays open so late in Haenggung-dong? Was it just me who didn’t know?

I visited Izakaya Rakuen Haenggung-dong. Although the map directions emphasized it was in an alley and I was worried it would be hard to find, upon arrival, the glowing tiled roof from afar was so beautiful that I found it easily. 👍

I was so excited by the beautiful entrance that my photos ended up being shaky. I had made a reservation, and a table for six was set, which seemed perfectly adequate for a gathering with friends.

There was even an outdoor terrace seating area on the first floor. If the weather had been just a little warmer, I would have loved to have a drink outside; the view was that amazing. The interior design is truly incredible. The atmosphere here is perfect for a Haenggung-dong date izakaya. ^_ㅠ

I went up to see the second floor. The stairs were beautiful, and I even took a photo in front of the mirror. There were quite a few customers on the second floor, so I quickly took some pictures. The owner seems to have done a really great job with the interior design. It made me want to visit again.

The second floor felt a bit brighter than the first, making it seem more suitable for friends than couples. However, since the women’s restroom is on the first floor, I would prefer to dine on the first floor next time.

The restroom was also very clean, so I give it a thumbs up. (For reference, the men’s restroom is on the second floor.)

Menu and Recommended Dishes at Rakuen

After finishing my tour, I finally sat down. You can order via a tablet PC, and since the menu is extensive, it’s best to refer to the menu posted outside. The basic side dish is edamame, which I don’t usually eat, but I tried one out of politeness. It tasted like beans.

My close friends arrived late, so I ordered the appetizers as I pleased. Hehehe. First, I ordered the Nagasaki Champon, spicy version!

Dish 1: Nagasaki Champon (Spicy)

This dish includes udon noodles, making it a great appetizer or a meal. The most impressive part was that the shrimp were already peeled, making them very easy to eat. I was amazed by the owner’s thoughtfulness. Highly recommended!

Dish 2: Okonomiyaki

Honestly, I’m not usually a big fan of okonomiyaki, so I objected when my friend suggested ordering it, but I jokingly told them to go ahead. I tried just one bite out of politeness, and wow, it was delicious. I recommend this one too!

Dish 3: Mentaiko Cream Pasta

Did you know that pasta can be a surprisingly good accompaniment to drinks? I ordered it simply because I was hungry, and it turned out to be quite tasty. It had a strong milky flavor, which I enjoyed, but it might be polarizing for those who dislike rich milky tastes.

Dish 4: Chicken Karaage

This dish is a no-brainer, a guaranteed success. It was piping hot, and the chicken was so tender that even though I was full, I couldn’t stop reaching for more. Strangely, it felt like there wasn’t much of it, but I think that was just because it was so delicious.

I finally took a commemorative photo at Haenggung-dong bar Rakuen. The lighting is soft and the atmosphere is truly wonderful. Haenggung-dong Izakaya Rakuen is highly recommended as a place suitable for all kinds of appointments, including dates, blind dates, and gatherings!
